THE PHOENIX TOWERS
Chetwoods Architect
The towers have a look of deep future, leaving the viewer in part spellbound and in part puzzled. Wuhan, situated on the Yangtze River, and the crossroads of nine major Chinese provinces, was recently designated as an environmentally friendly Super-City by the regional and central Chinese governments. This type of city will be known as one whose main focus will be on eco-sensitive buildings with green initiatives throughout. Chinese tradition and culture do comprise much of the substantial Chinese identity through the choice of the Tower name, Phoenix. The Towers are named for the traditional Chinese Phoenix, that combines two genders: the male Feng and female Huang, incorporating the ideal reciprocal union between femininity and masculinity, or Yin/Yang. Also, Chinese Phoenix legends do not contain any elements of revenge or violence.
